A quick glance at the news these days, whether it be on the radio, TV or in the newspapers, and it is clear to see that our society at large has what I call a “lack” mentality, or a “scarcity” mentality.

That is, our focus is continually being drawn to what we don’t have, or what we lack in some way, shape or form.

If you doubt this, just consider the stories which are making the news right now… The collapse of the sub-prime lending market globally, and the resulting credit squeeze in the UK. The stagnation in the housing market, with repossessions at an all time high. Wage demands in both public and private sectors being quashed and relative earnings declining as oil, gas and basic food commodity prices hit double digit growth. Jobs under threat as companies struggle to survive the economic downturn, and early retirees forced back into the workplace due to inadequate pension provisions.

But we were not born to be like this, or even to think like this. We were born with an abundance mentality – secure in the knowledge that we live in an abundant universe in which there is more than enough to go around, and where it is natural for us to achieve anything and everything we could wish for.

But somewhere along the way many of us lose this inborn feeling of security and we start to focus on all the things we don’t have; all the things we lack, rather than the happy positive thoughts about the things we desire and believe we deserve. If “lack” mentality has crept into your thought processes in any way as you have progressed through your life, then I challenge you to break your state right now, and consider the possibility that you can live your life a different way.

Here is a simple, but very effective Life Coaching exercises for you to try called “Count your blessings”…

Each day before you become embroiled in the hectic business of daily life, take a few moments to mentally list and acknowledge the things in your life which bring you joy and for which you are truly grateful. The relationships you have with loved ones, for example, your fulfilling career, or your radiant health – whatever is appropriate for you, simply spend a few moments enjoying the gifts you have, rather than lamenting the things you don’t.

And before you go to sleep each night, reflect on the day just gone and mentally replay all the good things that happened during the day, which brought you happiness and caused you to feel good about yourself and your life.

Remember, only YOU have the power to decide what you fill your mind with, and how you direct your thoughts…

Best wishes,

If doctors want to get inactive adults up and moving a formal, prescribing exercise might just do the trick. These prescriptions work according to the unique new research out of Spain.

Mainstream medicine has mostly ignored the idea of writing prescriptions for exercise, favoring instead surgical procedures or pharmaceutical approaches to keep patients healthy.

The researchers trained 56 Spanish family doctors on how to write custom exercise prescriptions for their inactive patients.

These doctors gave more than 2,200 adults exercise prescriptions that were specific to each patient. As a control for the study, the physician’s didn’t give exercise prescriptions to 2,070 other inactive adults.

Six months later, the patients who’d been given the prescriptions for exercise reported they’d been more physically active than those who hadn’t gotten the unique type of prescription.

These effects are considered clinically relevant.

Clearly vague advice to “get more active” doesn’t do the trick; but rather a personalized exercise routine, written in prescription form, just for them can have an impact and get patients up and moving.

Just as doctors do with prescriptions for medication in pill form, prescriptions for exercise need to have details to be worthwhile.

Why does exercise help? How do I get started? Is being active safe for me? Details about the type of exercise, how often it should be done, and goals for the patient are all important parts of any prescription.

By doing this, the recommendation stands as a physical reminder of the advice, and has an added something extra because your doctor took the time to write it down.

Past research has shown clearly that those who stay active and fit live longer and healthier lives than those who are more sedentary, and this holds true not matter how old you are, no matter what race you belong to, whether you’re male or female or no matter what the environment around you is like.

Of the three things that your doctor will tell you have the most impact on your health and longevity – genetics, environment and how we behave – behaviors are the things most under our own control.

And while this research is out of Spain, the results may well take hold in the United States.

Pamela Peeke, MD, MPH, FACP, who is the spokeswoman for the American College of Sports Medicine’s Exercise is Medicine campaign says of the prescriptions for exercise in the U.S. “It’s just in its embryonic phase.” In fact, Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles, California is testing a prescription for exercise program right now.

Part of why prescribing exercise is rare in the U.S. may be because many doctors don’t have any training in physical activity or nutrition, not to mention how to set up exercise programs.

In the research training was provided for the physicians, and that would likely help U.S. doctors as well.

Next just head on over to the Daily Health Bulletin for more information on why you could expect doctors to be prescribing exercise in the future, plus get 5 free fantastic health reports.

Now is the time to get out your calendar and start planning the things that you love to do in the summer.

Tips to make this your best summer:

Get clear about what you want-What are your intentions for the summer. Do you need a summer with lots of relaxation–lying in a hammock reading a favorite book? Do you need a summer with adventure–traveling to places you have always wanted to travel to? Do you need a summer filled with fun times with the people you love? Are you drawn to more solitude or connection with others? You might want a mix of all of the above. Get clear about what you would really love for your summer. The more you set your intention and then plan right now–the more you will fulfill your dreams for your best summer yet.

Take 100% responsibility for your happiness this summer. It is your job to create the summer you would like—it is in no one else’s hands. Do not make your good times reliant on someone else. If you want to travel and your partner does not want to–find someone else to go with–or go on your own. Let go of the false belief that you are selfish if you focus on your own happiness and take action to create it. You are actually being self-responsible when you do this. It is our job to create as much happiness for ourselves as possible. You have the capability of transforming those around you by your own happiness.

Put it on your schedule NOW- Get your calendar out and plan these fun events now. Connect with your friends and/or family and make a plan. And again if you can’t find someone to join you on your adventure–plan it on your own.

Don’t back down–Take a stand for your fun. Don’t let pressure from others make you back down from what you really want to do. Stay firm on your intentions for your summer and let go of others reactions-their reactions have more to do with them then you. You will be amazed at how great you will feel when you follow through with your plan.

Connect with the little kid inside of you–If you have a hard time thinking of things that you would love to do tune into the little kid inside of you. This part of you has a ton of ideas for fun things to do. Thing like: riding your bike, going out for ice cream, riding on a Ferris wheel, going water-skiing, sleeping outside on a warm summer night.

Ideas of Fun things to DO

Take a day trip to a state park and walk/bike in the woods

Attend a summer festival

Go to the beach

Go camping

Take a road trip with no destination

Go to see music outdoors

Go to a drive in movie–yes they still have them:)

Go to a water park or amusement park (they are for big kids too:)

Go dancing

We Are More Attractive When We Know They Are All THE ONE!

The most perfect relationship is the one that supports you in fulfilling your destiny – the one that empowers you to be everything you are meant to be in this world and beyond.

For example, in a room full of people, you have attracted each person for their ability to demonstrate to you what you want, and what you don’t want.

In that way, every person ‘in the room’ is … ‘THE ONE’.

Take out a piece of paper and write something you want in a business or personal relationship that would be a perfect fit for you. Write it down now and then go out into your life today and notice what you attract.

For example, one of our perfect customers mentioned that she went to the grocery store and she saw a couple picking out vegetables. She was intrigued, but she didn’t know exactly why.

I asked, her, “What was it about this particular couple that ‘grabbed her attention?”

Upon reflection, she said, “They looked like they were together and mutually supporting each other.

I asked her if she had written those qualities on her plan for attracting her perfect mate?

“No”, she replied.

For her, the couple at the grocery store represented “THE ONE” because they clearly demonstrated to her a quality that she wanted in her relationships. By staying awake and alert to what is showing up around you, you will be more able to refine, focus on and attract the relationships you need for the fulfillment of what you say you want.

“Forget looking for “the one” – they are all “the one” – a perfect love or a sign of land.” – Jan Stringer – Heart Beats

Now that’s attractive!

Each of Alan Hickman’s articles expresses a strategy, plan, or insight for getting better results in your life and your business. However, the most effective way to get results, and start making more money is to take a step-by-step approach.

For example I have a special home study program where I will take you by the hand and walk you through the 4 steps of creating your own BEE-ing Attraction plan. Go to http://www.perfectcustomers.com/ buy the book and get 7 free classes or subscribe for the FREE Report.

This is a rush-around world we live in. No matter how much we try to slow things down, down-size, or reduce our responsibilities, somehow the old snowball of stress manages to gather pace on us. The reason is that it is becomingly increasingly difficult to isolate ourselves. New technologies ensure that we are always in touch, and that means always touchy. So how do we beat the communications invasion?

The old idea of a faith walk was a long, hazardous journey through rough country heading for some religious centre, living on very little food along the way and sleeping under the stars, a genuine pilgrimage. While these are still possible to do in many parts of the world, increasingly they become part of a holiday, squeezed into a short space of time. At the end, the return to “normality” can wear away all the benefits of the trip.

The faith walk I have been promoting in these articles is about finding a spiritual centre that you can visit any time you want – inside your heart and your head. As the age of 24 hour trading, 7 days a week dawns on us we are in danger of losing the very special commandment that God made – “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” (Ex 20.8). In the days before Jesus, the Sabbath day was a particular day of the week when no one did anything. Jesus himself was rebuked for trying to heal a crippled woman on the Sabbath (Luke 13.10), but his teachings revealed that the new covenant was a covenant not written in stone, but on the heart.

This means that although the principle of a holy rest, a time which we devote to the Lord, is still vital for our well being, it no longer needs to be a specific day or a specific time. Psychologically, it is beneficial to take time off after a six day stretch of work, exactly as God commanded. Continuous work without rest can have a negative impact on health and stress levels. But just as importantly we should be able to find a quiet place inside us whenever we need to escape.

Follow this simple meditative routine whenever you can and remember it whenever things get on top of you:

Say, Father I hand all my difficulties to you as you are the best person to take care of them.

Say, I am like a tree planted by a stream, watered by the living word of Jesus

My enemies have the Lord to answer to, not me.

As I work, bless my endeavours, Lord, and bless others with whom I come into contact

If I feel unloved, unappreciated, neglected in my work, Lord remind me of the presence of your loving arms.

Sit still and upright, eyes shut, while you say these little prayers. Turn them into a hymn or a mantra, and repeat them until you feel the cool waters of Jesus’ wisdom rush through and over you. This is your real holy day.

Have you ever assessed your personal finances and then set modest goals to pay off this tiny loan first or increase your income by just a little to start making progress? Did you ever wonder why this approach usually ends up being a financial failure? The importance of thinking big with your personal finance goals and getting inspired by them cannot be understated for your success and I will outline the benefits below.

From now on I want you to throw away your modest financial goals and start thinking big. I mean really big. You might have a goal to increase your income, for example, and find a way to earn an extra hundred dollars a month. That personal finance goal was the you of the past, I would like you to take your modest goals and multiply them by 1000! Increasing your income by $10,000 a month might sound inconceivable to you, might sound crazy, but it is one of the secrets to financial success.

Let us talk a little about why thinking big with your personal finance goals works. It begins with a belief that you are capable of anything, I believe in you and you should too. Your beliefs can limit you, like chains, or they can free you to soar the financial heights. When you are inspired you know you are capable of incredible accomplishments, and that includes the financial arena even if your past success has been less than admirable. What you needed was a huge goal, a goal that absolutely inspires and invigorates your efforts to unimagined heights.

By setting these inspired big personal finance goals you free up your personal resources to think big about money on a scale you had previously put little thought into. If I was creating a personal finance plan on a small scale, perhaps I would think and imagine ways on how I could sell a few hundred cookies to earn an extra hundred dollars each month. Now if we multiply our goal, our thinking dramatically changes, how can go about creating hundreds of thousands of cookies, efficiently, and to sell them to increase my income by $10,000 a month. The very nature of your planning changes, and in your thinking change lies the personal finance secret to wealth building.

You may not reach your big inspired personal finance goal on your first month, but your efforts will be reaching for the stars. The rewards are so great as to inspire herculean efforts of finance and business wizardry on your part. Plus, if you fall short, the results might surprise you, far exceeding your original meager personal finance goal of an additional $100 in income, you might find yourself growing and developing the beginnings of a vastly rewarding wealth building enterprise.

Managing conflict involves more than just resolving the disagreement. If you fail to address the emotional and psychological needs of those involved, you may find the conflict returning and/or severe damage to the relationship may occur.

Depending on the severity of the conflict and how it was handled at each step of the resolution process, it may be impossible to go back to the point in the relationship that you were in before the disagreement. The key to reducing this possibility is to identify and address conflicting issues as early as possible. The longer an issue remains unresolved, the more damage it can cause. Whenever possible, apply one or more of the following strategies to help protect and salvage the relationship(s) between you and your coworkers, supervisor and customers. The following are key steps for saving a relationship once conflict occurs:

Reaffirm the value of the relationship. You cannot assume that others feel the same as you or understand your intent unless you communicate it. Tell them how much you value your relationship. This is especially important when dealing with customers.

Demonstrate commitment. You must verbalize and demonstrate your desire to continue or strengthen your relationship. The way to do this with customers is through service recovery or working collectively with the customer to rebuild trust and the relationship.

Be realistic. Because of behavioral styles, it is difficult for some people to “forgive and forget.” You have to systematically help restore their trust. It can take a while to accomplish this, but the effort is well worth it.

Remain flexible. A solid relationship involves the ability to give and take. It is especially crucial that you and the other people involved make concessions following conflict.

Keep communication open. One of the biggest causes of conflict and destroyed relationships is poor communication.

Gain commitment. You cannot do it all by yourself. Get a commitment to work toward reconciliation from any other person(s) involved in the conflict.

Monitor progress. Do not assume because the conflict was resolved that it will remain that way. Deep seated issues often resurface, especially when commitment was not obtained.

We all know people who have the “poor me” attitude. They always have a story of how someone wronged them or how nothing goes right for them or how they are always kept from doing what they really want to do. The “poor me” attitude is the victim mindset, which we know attracts attackers of all kinds, which, in turn perpetuates the attitude; a negative, vicious cycle.

As women, we give our power away far too often and being in the mindset of blaming everyone else for your life experiences means you have decided to let others run your life. For a “poor me” person, the attention they get by being tragic is reward enough to keep up the act. Pity is negative attention. Most people who fall for the “poor me” people are those who feel sympathy instead of empathy and get right in the muddy, tragic waters with them perpetuating the problem. Now instead of a drama queen, you have a drama play with all of the characters secure in their roles of despair.

The danger is negative attitudes weaken body language. This sets the “poor me” person, and anyone else who joined in the play, up for attack by people looking for a prospective victim. The body language change may be so subtle we wouldn’t notice but those who attack, it is as clear as a bell.

If you are a woman who likes being the captain of your own ship and determining your life’s course, chances are you have little time for “poor me” people. You see it as weakness and offer suggestions as to how they might adjust their circumstances. You offer encouragement until you realize that in their mind, if they take control of their life, they won’t have anyone else to blame and that is terrifying to them. I mean, what would they have to complain about then? And who would they complain to?

“Poor me” people may be helped, if they are up for it, but most would rather blame and complain, which makes them a toxic relationship and detrimental to people aiming to be healthy and happy.

Disclaimer: We all have “poor me” days occasionally but to live in this mindset by choice (and those who do deny they have choice) is a self-esteem issue of feeling unworthy of great things while still needing attention. It is a self fulfilling prophecy.

Rather than get dragged down with a “poor me” person to be unsafe yourself, talk about what they can do to rectify the situation. I can almost guarantee one of two things will happen. They will adjust to follow your excellent advice or they will not come to you with their sad stories anymore because they know you will not feed their “attention fix.”

Bonus Safety Secret: When a “poor me” person is a relative, the ramifications can be devastating to family members unless they protect themselves mentally and emotionally.
All too often when women think of strength training, their mind is automatically filled with images of huge women who look like football players. They don’t usually think of fit, sexy, feminine women. That’s a shame, because strength training is the ultimate way for a woman to build a sexy body with low body fat. Yes, strength training will help decrease your body fat levels. I won’t dive into the science behind the “why strength training” for women. Instead, I will simply tell you the best way to go about strength training and how you can get the best results in the least amount of time.

Use total body workouts or upper/lower splits. There is no reason to use a traditional bodybuilding split where you work different muscle groups on different days. Total body workouts or upper/lower splits are the only splits you will ever need. They allow you to work your muscle groups more frequently and they are more practical. If you use total body workouts, you should train three days per week on non-consecutive days. If you use upper/lower splits, you can train three or four days per week.

Use big, compound movements. The majority of your exercises should be movements that require a lot of muscle mass. Some examples include squats, deadlifts, lunges, push-ups, overhead presses, dumbbell and barbell presses, rows with dumbbells and cable machines, chin-ups, dips, planks, and all their variations. These are the exercises that will help you build a lean, sexy body that can actually function in the real work. In fact, these are the only exercises you will ever need to build the body you desire.

Going with number two, do not use machines. Just stay away from them. You will build a better body (aesthetically and functionally) doing bodyweight exercises or using dumbbells and barbells. Also, machines force you to use a fixed path, and your body does not operate that way. Machines can actually be harmful if they force you in a path your body wouldn’t normally travel. Also, they don’t force you to use your stabilizers; this makes the movement easier.

Lift heavy. Too many women are afraid to pick up anything other than a pink dumbbell because they’re afraid they’ll get big and bulky. Look, it won’t happen. It has never happened to any women I have ever training, and it won’t happen to you. You should lift in the higher rep range (10-15 reps) but you should also lift heavy (5-8 rep range). Trust me, this will do nothing but improve your aesthetic appearance and confidence.

Lay off the long, slow cardio. Long, slow cardio will not help you develop a lean, sexy look. The only thing long, slow cardio will do is give you a “skinny fat” appearance. Don’t believe me? Take a look at most marathon runners.
